I grew up in Spanish Town Jamaica and learned how to cook trusted traditional Jamaican recipes from my Great Grandmother, Grandmother, Aunts and my of course my Mother. We only used locally grown organic vegetables, organic meats and with handed down family recipes.
Our home was always bursting with amazing scents of spices and aromas! Now I bring these beautiful and succulent family recipes to you so that we can both share in my love of Caribbean style cooking.
You could always find my Great Grandma Mavis (My Mother's Grandma) in the kitchen, cooking with passion and love. Most recipes have been handed down, not written or in a book, but by memory of taste and smell.
There is a common expression we use: 'your ancestors will tell you how much to put in', and that is how we measure our ingredients.
As I was growing up, I used to watch intently as my family cooked in their small kitchens, smelling and tasting the flavours they were creating.
